Fort Valley State band suspended over hazing allegations

Homecoming is an anticipated time for students, alumni, fans, the football team as well as the marching band. At Fort Valley State, the marching band seemingly has been transformed from participants to spectators.

The University announced that it’s Blue Machine Marching Band has been suspended amid allegations of hazing.

Britney Smith, FVSU’s Director of Marketing and Communication, speaking to Fox affiliate WGXA (Macon, GA) confirmed the band being put on ice.

“Fort Valley State University has directed the Blue Machine Marching Band to suspend all activity due to allegations of hazing.

FVSU takes acts of hazing and allegations of hazing seriously and the matter is being investigated. The safety and well-being of our students and Wildcat community are always our top priority. At this time, no further details are available.”

Additionally, the University says that “cannot confirm if it will impact homecoming, as it depends on the time of the investigation.”

Homecoming week begins next week at Fort Valley, culminating in the game against Tuskegee on Saturday.
